Special Pop-up exhibition Tobias Keene exhibition
RIVERA & RIVERA, in conjunction with Brit Week Los Angeles, presents Tobias Keene: New Paintings, this Friday May 7th from 7-10PM. Complimentary drinks

Tobias Keene is a third generation British Artist who has lived in Los Angeles for the last twenty years. His artistic influences are very British – Stubbs, Francis Bacon, Lucien Freud- though it’s his imagination and day-to-day US living that creates his work. “My work is the subconscious portrayal of childhood memories that are running into an unknown ambiguous future,” Keene has said.
Keene experiments with new compositions and subject matter in his recent paintings. By isolating images on canvas, he creates moments of collective consciousness and cognitive visual explorations of the power and fragility of the human race. He favors large format canvases with flat, bold color and expressive painterly technique. Although prominent British icons are often featured in his work, the figures of playful children and animals enrich the sunny Angeleno spirit of this exhibition.
Brit Week events around Los Angeles celebrate British connections to California. Please visit their website for a full schedule of events and locations.
Current exhibition Dirk Hagner: The Hungry Eye, (Der Hunger Des Auges) marks a reflective moment in the long and inventive career of a master printmaker. Carefully curated from a decade of creative work, this exhibition explores a vast range of complex visual and intellectual ideas. The Hungry Eye takes the viewer on a journey through color, medium, texture, and composition while simultaneously delving into philosophy, poetry, history, and science.
