http://meetup.losangelesartgroup.org/calendar/13387843/Tobias Keene is a third generation British Artist who has lived in Los Angeles for the last twenty years. His artistic influences are very British – Stubbs, Francis Bacon, Lucien Freud- though it’s his imagination and day-to-day US living that creates his work. “My work is the subconscious portrayal of childhood memories that are running into an unknown ambiguous future,” Keene has said.
Keene experiments with new compositions and subject matter in his recent paintings. By isolating images on canvas, he creates moments of collective consciousness and cognitive visual explorations of the power and fragility of the human race. He favors large format canvases with flat, bold color and expressive painterly technique. Although prominent British icons are often featured in his work, the figures of playful children and animals enrich the sunny Angeleno spirit of this exhibition.
Brit Week events around Los Angeles celebrate British connections to California. Please visit their website for a full schedule of events and locations.
